Assign All Items Wizard

An alternative to assignment of an ASN.1 schema to a message is to use the All Items Wizard option. This provides additional options that may be specified to adjust the ASN.1 schema to match the given message.

1. Click the Assign option from the File Operations toolbar.

2. Select the All Items Wizard... option to open a Wizard dialog window.

3. The All Items Wizard dialog box will be displayed allowing the assignment of ASN.1 files from different locations and of different versions of ASN.1 files to the message.

The user has the following choices to select ASN.1 files and ASN.1 version:

  • 1997 / 2002 ASN.1 Standard (default selection).
  • 1990 ASN.1 Standard: if ASN.1 files are using old-style ROSE OPERATION or ERROR MACRO definitions, then this option should be selected.

The user may also set or change the current ASN.1 encoding rules that are being used.

4. Click the Add button next to the ASN.1 Files box to add ASN.1 files required to decode the message.

5. Click the Add button next to the Include Directories box to add include directories. Include directories are needed if the primary ASN.1 file(s) import items from other ASN.1 modules whose associated files are located in a different directory.

6. Click the Next button to move to the next screen or Cancel to cancel the operation.

Note: The Next button will only be enabled after adding ASN.1 files to the project.

7. If Next was pressed, the Select PDU Type dialog window will be displayed:

In this step, Display All Types or Display possible PDU Types radio buttons will be displayed along with the list of module names in the selected ASN.1 specifications. Each module will contain a list of all of the type names in that module.

Display All Types: This option will display all of the types for each module.

Display Possible PDU types: ASN1VE will display only those types that can be possibly used to decode the current message. If no types meet this criteria, then no types will be displayed in that module's type list.

Note: The Finish button will be enabled after selecting the PDU type. On pressing the Finish button, ASN1VE will try to decode the message using the selected PDU type. If successful, the message view will be switched to element view.

8. Click Finish button to finish ASN.1 Wizard and to return to the application.
