The following are frequently asked questions and answers
about downloading the ASN1C evaluation software:
| Q. |
When I click on the link nothing happens
or I get garbage. Why? |
| A. |
It could be because your browser
settings are not set to allow the file types to be automatically downloaded via
HTTP. If this is the case, you can right click on the links and select "Save
Target As..." in Internet Explorer or "Save Link As..." in Netscape to download
the files. Other browser types should have a similar option. |

| Q. |
I downloaded the Java version for
Solaris, but when I try to untar, I get a checksum error. What is the reason
for this? |
| A. |
The Solaris tar utility program cannot
handle pathnames over 100 characters in length. We recommend that you do the
following:
- Download the 'gtar-solaris-4.1.4-sparc.gz'
utility from the following link:
http://www.mysql.com/downloads/os-solaris.html
- gunzip this file
- rename to gtar (mv gtar-solaris-4.1.4-sparc
gtar)
- chmod +x gtar
- move gtar to a directory within the PATH such as
/usr/local/bin
You will then be able to use gtar to untar the
distribution file. |

| Q. |
I have a very slow Internet connection
and the file sizes are quite large. Is there any other way to get the
evaluation software? |
| A. |
We may be able to send the files via
E-mail to you or send you a CD. In the case of a CD, a nominal charge for
preparation and shipping may be required. Please contact us at
support@obj-sys.com and we will see
what we can do. |
|
| Q. |
If we license the software, do we need
to download again? |
| A. |
If you purchase run-time libraries with
unlimited binary redistribution or source code, you will need to download the
run-time package for that configuration. Otherwise, the evaluation software can
be used with the permanent license. |
|
| Q. |
What if I want to evaluate both the
C/C++ and Java versions? |
| A. |
Then download both versions and install
both to the same base directory. The result will be a compiler installation
with C, C++, and Java run-time directories. |
|
| Q. |
My operating system / compiler
combination does not exist in the download options provided on your web-site.
Can I get an evaluation version for my system? |
| A. |
ASN1C has been ported to many operating
environments. We have only listed the most popular environments on our site.
Please contact us at support@obj-sys.com with your
requirements and we will see if we can build a special version for your
system. |
