LINUX INSTALLATION

Minimum Resource Requirements

ASN1VE for Linux should run on any reasonably current distribution (Ubuntu, Fedora, SUSE, RHEL, et c.). We build ASN1VE on Ubuntu 08.10, but it has been tested on a variety of Linux systems in the field.

At least 60 MB of disk space is required on the target system.

Installing the Distribution File

ASN1VE is distributed as a platform-independent .tar.gz archive: asn1ve22xlnx.tar.gz, where 22x would be replaced with the current version number (for example, 220).

Installation may be accomplished simply by unpacking the archive; a global installation in /opt is recommended for multi-user settings. Otherwise a local installation in the user's home directory should be sufficient.

To unpack the archive, run tar xzf asn1ve22xlnx.tar.gz, noting that 22x would be replaced with the current version number. Global installations in /opt will require super user privileges.

The archive will be unpacked in asn1ve_v22x. The executables and dependent libraries are stored in asn1ve_v22x/bin.

Installing the License

An unlicensed version of ASN1VE will have some of its functions disabled, although it will still be able to browse BER structures. The license may be installed through a pane in the ASN1VE configuration window. To open the window, click Edit > Configure:

The Configuration Options window has a "License" tab that will accept a license key:

An evaluation license may be obtained by emailing support@obj-sys.com; identifying information is required to obtain a license. Once the evaluation license has been obtained, all that is needed is to copy and paste the key into the given box.
